MBA Mission Statement

We serve our region by educating ethical leaders who are effective in managing organizations in the global environment.

History

The School of Business Administration, founded in 1918, is the largest professional school at The University of Montana. Since 1982, the master of business administration (MBA) program has been fully accredited by, AACSB, The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International. The school is one of 482 business schools worldwide to be accredited at both the undergraduate and masters levels.

Over the years, curriculum innovations have evolved to truly distinguish the program and the University among its peer institutions. For example, graduate courses that make up the first year of many traditional MBA degree programs now are offered on the Internet, cutting the time that students have to spend out of the workforce in pursuit of their MBA degree. Particularly innovative is our schedule where the school year is divided into three 10-week mini-semesters with a Fall Semester one-week break scheduled during the last six weeks.

At-A-Glance

We offer two programs where students can earn an MBA degree: the on-campus daytime program and the off-campus evening program. Classes are held in Missoula, MT, and evening classes are interactively broadcasting to eight other Montana cities.

Typical students in the daytime program drop out of the workforce for the duration of their studies. Students can start the MBA program and complete all degree requirements within a year if all the foundation courses are completed. Many students, however, choose to extend their individual studies to eighteen or twenty four months while capitalizing on experiential opportunities offered in the school and the community. Students in the evening program usually work part- or full-time while taking evening and weekend courses, which lengthens their time in the program to two years.

The MBA program is a thirty two-credit-hour professional curriculum that requires nineteen credits of core courses and thirteen credits of elective courses. Depending on previous coursework, students may be required to take an additional fifteen credits of foundation courses. There is no thesis requirement for this program; instead we offer an integrated project course that is part of the core course requirements. The MBA professional curriculum must be completed within five years.
