Welcome
to The University of Montana MBA degree program where
the spirit of curriculum innovation drives continuous
quality improvement and where students meet in small
classes with outstanding faculty in an experiential
setting.
The Master of Business Administration (MBA)
degree has been offered by The University of Montana in Missoula
since 1965. This graduate program was accredited by AACSB in 1982.
Over the years, curriculum innovations have evolved to truly distinguish
the program and the University among its peer institutions.
For example, graduate courses that make up the first year of
many traditional MBA degree programs now are offered on the
Internet, cutting the time that students have to spend out of
the workforce in pursuit of their MBA degree. Particularly innovative is our schedule
where the school year is divided into three 10-week mini-semesters
with a Fall Semester one-week break scheduled during the last
six weeks.
We offer two programs where
students can earn the MBA degree, the on-campus daytime
program and the off-campus evening program. This site will introduce you to a highly innovative curriculum, one
designed to cut across the functional areas of business from the
first course through the last.
While several functional-area
core courses
of two credits each are part of the curriculum, nearly one-half
of the courses are one- and two- credit electives. One-credit weekend courses and
occasional courses on the Internet are scheduled to supplement the regularly
scheduled classes. Attention is given in particular to electives
in technological and interpersonal (soft-skill) areas. Overall,
students should be exposed to somewhere between 14 and 18
different courses and instructors including courses taught by
business professionals.
Typical students in the daytime
program drop out of the workforce for the duration of their
program while students in the evening program usually work part-
or full- time while taking Tuesday and Thursday evening classes
and attending weekend courses. Students can start at UM in late
August and complete all degree requirements 10 months later.
Many students, however, choose to extend their individual
programs to 18 or 24 months while capitalizing on experiential
opportunities offered in the school and the community.
