Teresa Beed,
Ph.D., CPA Director, Masters of Accountancy Program
The accounting profession is in the midst of a period
of tremendous change. There has never been a more exciting time
to be considering a future in accounting. A unique career opportunity
waits since there is always a growing need for accountants - in
good or bad economic times. Many choices will unfold before you
as the world becomes increasingly global and the need for accounting
expertise expands and changes. Today, the demand for accountants
exceeds the supply.
Our Masters of Accountancy Program is one of only a few in the
Northwest that has achieved separate AACSB accounting accreditation.
Our program earned the highest graduate pass rate in the nation
for the May 2000 CPA Exam. See below for 2008 CPA Exam
information. The program is large enough to allow
students to form a network of people to have as future contacts,
but is also small enough to allow students and professors to get
to know each other. Due to the knowledge, background, service,
expertise, and research efforts of the faculty, you will be exposed
to all aspects of accounting from its history up to the cutting
edge of current events.
“The resources,
education, and support I received from UM’s Accounting
Department combined with the activities available inside
and outside of the classroom, prepared me for a successful
transition from college to a professional career. With the
accounting background I established at UM, I was able to
obtain a position with the #1 accounting firm in the world.”
