Scholarships

Scholarships and award amounts vary from year to year.  For the 2008-09 academic year, 18 scholarships were awarded to MAcct or MBA students, ranging from $1,000 to $6,000 each.

How to apply:

Junies Chase Masters of Accountancy (MAcct) Scholarship

The School of Business Administration (SOBA) is proud to announce the Junie Chase MAcct Scholarship.  A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to every MAcct student during his/her final year of graduate school if the student attends the MAcct fulltime, is a student in good standing during the entire year, and is receiving no other merit-based scholarships from the SOBA for that year. The scholarship is not awarded for more than one year and is not awarded to students who are in their prerequisite coursework years.

All students are still strongly encouraged to apply for a Graduate Assistantship or other, higher-amount scholarships via the regular application processes.   Students receiving a Graduate Assistantship or a scholarship in the SOBA with an amount of at least $1,000 will not be eligible to receive a Junie Chase Scholarship.

After Graduate Assistantships and other SOBA scholarships are awarded, the Junie Chase MAcct Scholarships will automatically be awarded to eligible MAcct students.  You do not need to apply for this scholarship, but you are greatly encouraged to apply for other SOBA MAcct scholarships first.

·         Applications for a Graduate Assistantship (GA) can be downloaded from the School of Business Graduate Programs website at http://www.mba-macct.umt.edu/MAcct-Finances.asp#Assistantships  MAcct students who are in their MAcct year of study are given preferences for GA assignments.  GAs have most of their tuition waived, are assigned to work 15 hours per week with 2-4 faculty, and are given a desk and computer in the GA office in the Business School.  GAs are paid monthly.  Applications for GAs are due by February 1 of each year for the following academic year.

·         Applications for a Business School Graduate Scholarship are at www.business.umt.edu/Current Students/Scholarships/.   Even though the site says current students, all people applying for the MAcct Program should apply for Business School scholarships via this website.  The site comes online toward the end of November and closes on February 1st.   During this time, you apply for scholarships for the following academic year.  Graduate Scholarships range from $1,000-$3,000 for the MAcct Program.

Deadline:  February 1st

Occasionally other honors and scholarships are awarded. Keep a current résumé in your graduate file in the School of Business Administration, and you may qualify for these awards.

If you intend to apply for one of these awards, we recommend that you take the GMAT by mid-January.

Assistantship awards are available each semester for MAcct applicants and students. They include remission of most registration, incidental, and out-of-state fees, and a stipend of at least $4,500 per semester.
